The mark on the forehead and the hand
(The number that speaks about humanity)
In the Book of Revelation a number appears: 666.
The text emphasizes it clearly:
"for it is the number of a man."
So it does not speak about some supernatural creature.
It speaks about the human being.
In biblical language, repeating something three times always intensifies its meaning.
The three sixes therefore become an image of human power amplified.
Human material and power systems reach their peak —
the possession of goods, the rule of money.
Almost completeness — which in biblical symbolism would be the number seven.
Yet it remains human — one step short of wholeness.
In the story another sentence appears as well:
that those who do not bear the mark cannot buy or sell.
This is the language of economic life,
the language of livelihood.
Alignment with the system determines who may remain within its cycle.
Those who refuse to conform may easily be pushed out.
In biblical language, commerce often carries a moral image as well.
We can think of the moment when merchants appear in the temple and Jesus overturns their tables.
There it was not merely about money, but about how we treat what is sacred or entrusted to us.
This is why the phrase “buying and selling” contains several layers.
Economic layer:
who is allowed to participate in the system.
Power layer:
who decides who may remain inside it.
Moral layer:
how humans treat what has been entrusted to them.
It is not only about money.
It is about resources.
Responsibility.
Human lives.
Some early readers believed the number 666 referred to the name of Emperor Nero —
a power that demanded loyalty.
But the image reaches beyond a single ruler.
The Book of Revelation describes a moment when power, economic pressure and social expectation meet the human conscience.
And there the human being must choose.
It becomes visible what truly guides them:
fear,
interest,
or integrity.
There are eras — like the one we are living in now — when this question becomes especially sharp.
In such times humanity is tested.
Perhaps that is why the mark appears on everyone's forehead and hand.
On the forehead, where humans think.
On the hand, with which they act.
Because this is where it becomes visible
what truly leads a human being.
