Everything is fine – the mask of self-deception

Everything is great.
At least that’s what you say.

But then why don’t you sleep properly?
Why do you walk up and down at dawn, as if you were searching for something?

Why do you slam doors?
Why do you become tense before your partner / child / boss even speaks?

Why do you flare up over small things, as if your life depended on them?
Why do you belittle your surroundings?

Why do you get angry when you see happy or successful people?

If everything is truly fine, why do you think you should already be somewhere else in life?

Or are you simply afraid of the answer hidden in the silence?

Maybe because deep inside, dissatisfaction is stirring.
The fear of failure.
The fear of not being good enough.
That one day it will turn out you can’t clear the bar.
That no matter what you do, you won’t measure up.

Are you afraid that you don’t matter to them?
That they won’t love you?

You can say you’re fine.
You can smile.
You can wave it off cynically.

But your body tells the truth.
The energy flowing from you speaks louder than your words.

Strength is not pretending that everything is fine.
Strength is daring to admit that, in this moment, you don’t feel that way.

This doesn’t mean you have to broadcast to the world when you feel bad.
It simply means: don’t lie to yourself about it.

Why are we so afraid to admit this to ourselves?
Because everything could change because of it.

So… is everything really fine?
